Maurice John Matthews

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:

Maurice John Matthews, b. on April 21st., 1867, Barford St. Martin, Wilts, England; for the 1881 census, Maurice 13 was a boarder at The College, Boscombe, Christchurch, Hants. Maurice 23, living with his father for the 1891 census. He migrated to Canada in 1891 and became a farmer in Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan. About 1895, he married Maud Mary Elise Carter, who was born in Tetbury, Glos, England, on December 7th., 1869. In the Canadian 1911 and 1916 censuses for Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada, Maurice Matthews, a farmer, was living with his wife, Maud Mary Elise Matthews, and their 5 children. By the 1921 census, Maurice lived in Regina, with his wife and family of 5. Maurice died in Regina, on October 20th., 1959, and Maud died there in 1969; they were buried there in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Regina. Issue:

(1) John Neville Matthews, born on August 14th., 1896, in Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada. He lived with his parents in Qu’ Appelle, Sask. By 1921, John, living with his parents, had moved to Regina, where he was a fireman. John married Gladys ?. He died on August 10th., 1939; he is buried in Regina.

(2) Mary Elisa Matthews, born on March 11th., 1898, in Qu Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1930, Mary was enumerated in the U.S.A. census for Cook, Illinois.

(3) Kathleen Narcisse (Kay) Matthews, born on October 2nd., 1899, in Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada. Kathleen married Henry Allen Owsley. Kathleen Owsley died on November 16th., 1971 and was buried in Escambia, Pensacola, Florida.

(4) Elizabeth Frances Matthews, born February 28th., 1902, in Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada.

(5) Eleanor Harriett Matthews, born c.October 1905, in Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada..
