December 31, 1981 DR. MAX MEYER

Dr. Max Meyer, who had served the Free Synagogue of Flushing, Queens, for more than 50 years as rabbi and rabbi emeritus, died last Saturday in Jensen Beach, Fla. He was 88 years old.

Dr. Meyer, whose family included five generations of rabbis, was born in Kansas City, Mo. He was a graduate of the Jewish Institute of Religion when he went to the Free Synagogue in 1922. He served as its rabbi until 1963 and then was named rabbi emeritus. In 1978, he moved from Flushing to Jensen Beach.

He served four terms as secretary of the New York Board of Rabbis. In 1961, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity by the New York School of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

He is survived by two daughters, Marcia Domanick of Jensen Beach and Ruth Polin of East Lansing, Mich.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
