About Max Orshanski
Born in Kiev, Russia to Baruch (Bernard) and Rose (Baloshin) Orshanski; Max's name was originally Motel Orszanski.
Max and Sadie came to Corpus Christi, Texas from Russia by way of Cuba and Mexico in 1922. Max started out by buying and then reselling inexpensive trinkets. He would carry them throughout the cities of Corpus Christi, Portland, and Aransas Pass in a bag on his back. Using profits from that, he and Sadie began buying property in Corpus Christi and erecting low-rent housing. They usually bought land that was considered "cheap". They owned properties in the Bluff portion on Brownlee and Lipan Streets and other properties on Sam Rankin, North Broadway, Port, and Agnes Streets as well as many others. The value of all their properties was valued at nearly one-half million dollars in 1947. Their marriage became strained and they divorced shortly before Max's death.
