Max Sterne

Qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon and spent 2 years in the Belgian Congo on a cattle ranch. He became an emminent Bacteriologist and a fine sportsman. He swam and boxed for South Africa in our National Games. He perfected the Anthrax Vaccine which is still known as the “Sterne strain” and is used throughout the world. Max married Tikvah Alper who in her own right was a well recognized Scientist. Max and family emigrated from South Africa to London where Max became the Director of Bacteriology at the Welcome Foundation. They had 2 sons both of whom live in England.
