Obituary
Wife of City’s first Bishop Dies
Mrs. May Isabel Cannon, 81, widow of Carl John Cannon, the first LDS bishop of Pocatello, died in St, Anthony Hospital Monday.
She had been a patient there for the last five years.
Her husband was made bishop when the Pocatello First Ward was organized on July 13, 1890. His counselors were David Williams and Daniel Clark. The Pocatello First Ward was part of the Oneida Stake, with Stake offices in Preston. Bishop Cannon was a tailor by trade. He died in 1920.
Mrs. Cannon has been an active worker in the LDS Church all her life, until her retirement because of illness. She served in various capacities in the Primary Association, Relief Society and Young Women's Mutual Improvement Åssaciation.
Her brother, George Williams, served as an early day mayor of Pocatello.
Mrs. Cannon was born May 13, 1879 in Wales, the daughter of Jude and Julia Williams. The family came to America and to Pocatello near the turn of the century, where her father and brother worked for the Oregon Short Line Railroad. She is survived by one son. Carl John Cannon Jr. of Seattle and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p. m. in the Pocatello First Ward LDS chapel with Bishop Lewis H. Nebeker officiating. Burial Will be in Mountainview Cemetery under the direction of the Weiser and Son Mortuary.
