NORTHBRIDGE - Maynard K. Wassenar, 90, of Union Street in the Linwood section of Northbridge, died Tuesday at home.
His wife, Sylvia (Southwick) Wassenar, died in 1981. He leaves a son, Winthrop M. Wassenar of Williamstown; a daughter, Carolyn G. Wilcox of Hopkinton; a brother, Harold H. Wassenar of Uxbridge; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He also leaves a close friend and companion, Alice L. Gardner of Linwood. He was born in Northbridge, son of Bert J. and Annie (Krull) Wassenar, and graduated from Bentley School of Accounting in Waltham, now Bentley College.
Mr. Wassenar was a janitor for several years at Whitinsville Christian School in Whitinsville. Previously he was a door-to-door salesman in Shrewsbury for Cushman Bakery. He was a sexton 27 years at the First Evangelical Congregational Church in Uxbridge, and he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Buma Funeral Home, 480 Church St., Whitinsville. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Uxbridge. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
