PIONEER DIES
M E Stratton, father of Mrs William Tilghman, and a pioneer of Kansas and Oklahoma, died at Kansas City Saturday. Mr Stratton was 82 years old. He moved to Kansas from Illinois in 1858 and was one of the first settlers in Greenwood county, Kansas. He was admitted to the bar in 1863, but after several years forsook the practice of law for the farm. He was the third man to drive a herd of Texas cattle over the famous Chisholm trail. In 1887 he took a ranch in the Osage country which he held several years. He made the run in 1889, staking his claim in Payne county, but he lost it on a contest. He secured a claim in Kay county at the opening of the strip and later moved to a farm in Payne county where he resided until the death of his wife seven years ago. Three daughters and one son survive him. Interment will be made in the Ingalls cemetery east of Stillwater Tuesday.
