About McDenster Rinks

Mack C. Rinck was born in Wayne County, Tenn. He lived with his parents near Waynesboro, Wayne County, Tennessee. His name in the Census is McDenster but he was called Mack, He died in 1936 in St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas at the home of his grandson Lester Rinck and is buried in Altamont Cemetery, Labette County, Kansas.

Mack was 7 years old when he moved to Missouri with his parents. He was 11 when his father, George W. Rinck, enrolled for service in the Civil War.

After marriage, Mack and Ruth lived in Phelps County, Missouri for a while and then in 1888 moved to a farm near Altamont, Labette County, Kansas. They went by covered wagons from Missouri to Kansas, taking with them all of their household belongings and livestock. The older boys walked and herded the livestock. They lived on this one farm near Altamont until 1920, when they left the farm and moved into Altamont. Ill health overtook Ruth, so they gave up their home and lived with their children. After Ruth died, Mack lived with his grandson, Lester Rinck and his wife Grace Smith. in St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas, where he died.

Mack was know as a big, kind-hearted individual, always willing to help out a friend, but never asking anything in return. He was noted for his honesty, his desire to fully meet all of his financial obligations and to deal fairly with everyone.
