Mehitable Tasker (Dutton) Drake was the seventh born child of Charles A. and Laura A. Dutton. Hattie May married Edward Drake on May 1st 1881 when she was 17. The marriage took place in Conway, Taylor County, Iowa.

During the course of their marriage, Hattie May had five children:

Ernest J. born in July 1882 in Dakota Territory
Fern O. born in August 1885 in Dakota Territory
Laura A. born February 1887 in Dakota Territory
Edward A. Jr. born in May 1889 in Dakota Territory
Hazel R. born in December 1892 in Kansas

The name Mehitable Tasker has been passed down through the family for five generations. The name originated with Mehitable Winkley (1761-1824) who married Paul Tasker. After Paul Tasker died, Mehitable Tasker devoted a lot of her time toward improving the welfare of orphaned children. Mehitable's sister Mary Winkley married Silas Edgerly and they had a daughter named Mary Edgerly who married Ira Sutton. The Sutton's named a daughter Mehitable Tasker Sutton (1837-1917) [married George Paul] and another daughter Laura A. Sutton. Laura A. Sutton married Charles A. Dutton and they named a daughter Mehitable Tasker Dutton who married Edward Drake. Mehitable Tasker (Dutton) Drake was the seventh born child of Charles A. and Laura A. Dutton.
