Melva Hale Kidman —PETERSBORO - Melva Hale Kidman, 80, died after a battle with lymphoma, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in the Logan Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born June 21, 1922, in Afton, Wyo., a daughter of Benjamin and Susan Idella Cazier Hale. She married Oriel Hyrum Kidman June 30, 1954, in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of three sons. Melva was an active member of the LDS Church, having served as a librarian for over 15 years and in Primary and Relief Society presidencies in the Mendon First Ward. She served a mission to the North Central States Mission as a single woman and with her husband to the western states. After returning, they served another mission in the Logan stake. Melva loved serving her God, family and fellow men and showed great kindness to all. Her warm, caring spirit will be missed. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard for two years during World War II in the Woman's Reserve. She was a clerk-typist for Hillfield Air Force Base before joining the Coast Guard, and taught at the Ogden School for the Deaf for two years after graduating from Brigham Young University. Her greatest accomplishments were on the homefront where she helped and supported her husband on the family farm and raised her three boys. The simple things in life are what brought her the greatest joy. Melva was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Charles, Edward and Willard; and two sisters, Izora Hoopes and Ada Allman. Surviving are her three sons and their spouses, Verdell (Julie) Kidman, Tremonton, Mark (Beth) Kidman, Hyrum, Rex (Marsha) Kidman, Sandy; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Elda Miller, Logan. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 11, in the Mendon chapel, with Jack Fryer officiating. Friends may call Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, and Saturday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the church. Interment in the Mendon Cemetery.
