MEMORIAL PHOTOS 2 FLOWERS 1 Melvin A. Jacobson, 69, of Orr, died Sunday, December 26, 1999, at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, Arizona.

He was born September 7, 1930, to John and Ida (Paavola) Jacobson in Gheen. He grew up and attended school in Cook, graduating from Cook High School in 1949. He attended Virginia Jr. College and graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BS degree in business and economics with a major in psychology. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a battalion supply sergeant with the Seventh Division and was awarded the Bronze Star. In 1954 he moved to Orr, where he owned and operated Mel's IGA Supermarket for 31 years and co-owned the King Koin Laundromat. On May 7, 1955, Melvin married Blanche Peterson in Orr. They retired in 1985 and moved to Pelican Lake. He served on the Orr American Legion Post No. 480, and the VFW Post No. 1757 of Cook. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the American Legion Past Department Vice Commander's Club, the Orr Chamber of Commerce, Calvary Lutheran Church of Orr. He was a charter member of the Orr Lion's Club; was a former member of the Orr City Council. He was a board member of the Orr Housing Corporation and served as its president. He attended Faith Lutheran Church in Yuma, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by two sisters. Ailie Sarrikoski in 1982, Darlene Ritter in 1996; a brother, Sulo in 1986; parents John in 1981 and Ida in 1984.
