Green's 96th
Merrill L. Green will observe his 96th birthday today. He lives in Wellsville with his daughter Glenda G. Riggs. No formal celebration will be held.
He was born Nov. 15, 1891, in Wellsville, a son of Nephi Walker Green and Elizabeth McCormic Leishman.
He married Eva Thorpe Wyatt Nov. 11, 1914, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Oct. 3, 1971.
He is a life-long resident of Wellsville, receiving his early education at the old Central School.
Mr. Green owned and operated a small farm until his retirement. He was a cattle buyer for many years, a state meat inspector at the Lester Miller Packing Co. in Hyrum, a employee at the Utah Central Depot in Ogden and also at the Morning Milk Plant in Wellsville.
He served as a board member of the East Field Irrigation Company and is a charter member of the Wellsville Lions Club. Mr. Green served as Wellsville City justice of the peace for 15 years.
He has been an active member of the LDS Church throughout his life. He is presently a High Priest in the Wellsville 3rd LDS Ward. He sang in the ward choir for many years, was High Priest group leader and has been a temple worker.
Mr. Green is the father of Earl W. Green, Murray; Merrill W. Green, Middleton, Idaho; Glenda G. Riggs, Wellsville; and Fred W. Green, Brigham City. He has 21 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
