Victorian birth registrations record Michael's second christian name as John. Later electoral roll records show his second christian name as James.
In 1914 Michael James Cusack was living at 560 Spencer Street, West Melbourne and was employed as a labourer. His younger brother, John Patrick Cusack, Railway Employee, lived up the road from him at 586 Spencer Street, West Melbourne.
By 1919 Michael had moved to 19 Hawke Street, West Melbourne and was still a labourer by occupation. Following his marriage, Michael moved to 36 Grant Street, Clifton Hill with his wife, Catherine.
Prior to 1931 Michael and Catherine moved to 166 St Leonards Road, Ascot Vale where Michael operated a business as a carrier. This address remained their family home until after Michael's death in 1937.
In his will dated 4 May 1937, he listed his occupation as a retired carrier. Witnesses to his will were his brothers-in-law, Lawrence Vincent Donnellan and Ignatius Donnellan, both of 9 Abbot Grove, Clifton Hill. Later, at the time of probate, Lawrence, a labourer, had moved to 139 Rawsden Street, Clifton Hill.
