Michael Holloran was born in Mayo Co., Ireland, in 1837. He moved to Yorkshire, England, in 1850, and there worked on a farm five years, and then joined the militia, serving one year in the British army in the Crimean war, Charles Napier commanding general. He sailed from one port to another and, finally, on the 10th of March, 1857, he landed at New York, where he learned the plumber and gas fitter's trade on Staten Island, under Thomas McNight. From there he moved to Belvidere, Boone Co., Ill. Here he learned the stone cutter and mason's trade, and soon after removed to Scotland Co., Mo., where he remained a year, thence back to DeKalb Co., Ill., where he farmed until 1870, at which time he came to Franklin county, settling on section 30, Osceola township, where he owns 400 acres of land. He was married to Ann Carroll in 1859. By this union there are eleven children : Mary, Kate, Martin J., Julia, Frank P., Annie Maggie, John W., Michael Edward, Thomas Joseph, and Robert Henry. Mary was married to Thomas Fahey in 1880. Mr. Holloran is a democrat in politics and a member of the Catholic Church.

b. 1836 in Mayo County, Ireland, d. Nov. 16, 1909 at Swaledale, Iowa
He moved to Yorkshire, England in 1850 and worked on a farm for 5 years. He joined the Militia and served in the British Army for a year in the Crimean War. On March 10, 1857 he came to New York and worked as a plumber and gas fitter on Staten Island, then came to Belvidere in Boone County, IL where he was a stone cutter and mason. He moved to Scotland County, Missouri for a year, then to DeKalb County, IL where he farmed. He served for 3 years in the 34th Illinois Volunteers. In 1868 he came to Franklin County, Iowa, Section 30, Osceola Township, where he bought 400 Acres. He was a Democrat.

"Mrs. Fahey was a daughter of Mr. Michael Halloran, generous hearted, open-handed, early-day residents of the community who were always counted with the best."

  9. Michael Edward "Ed" Halloran, b. March 31, 1875, d. May 3, 1942 at St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minn. Never married.
  10. Thomas Joseph Halloran, b. June 4, 1877, d. Oct. 1, 1930. He was a pharmacist, moved to Sioux City in 1918. Another account says born 1866, d. April 5, 1877.
  11. Robert Henry Halloran, b. May 4, 1881, d. May 1, 1954. Never married.
  12. Ellen "Nellie" Halloran, b. Nov. 30, 1885 Ackley, d. Dec. 18, 1918 in the flu pandemic. On April 10, 1907 in Swaledale, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, m. George T. Mulligan, b. abt 1879, son of James Mulligan and Bridget Carroll.
