Born in Johannisdorf*, Romania, possibly Viișoara, Mureș on 19 September 1888 to Johann Hermann and Marie Wenzel. At his birth, he had a brother, Johann, who was ten years older than him.
In Apr 1906 he immigrated to the US, arriving in Baltimore, affirming the 1920 and 1930 censuses which say he immigrated in 1906. He came on the Karlsruhe,a Norwegian shipping line, and went to his brother Johann's place in Pittsburgh with a sister-in-law, Jara/Sara Wenzel. She may have been the sister of his mother, Marie.
At some point he married a woman named Marie Charlotte Graf who was also an immigrant from Transylvania.
On Dec. 5, 1913 he filed his Naturalization Declaration in Pennsylvania's Alleghany County and said he was born in "St. Ivan Hungary."
By 1917-1918, he is living in Duquesne, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, working at Carnegie Steel. Two of his children have been born: Richard (1915) and Raymond (1917). In following years, another child will be born: Ruth (1919)
By 1920, he is a laborer in a machine shop (at Westinghouse?) and living in North Braddock Ward 1, Allegheny, Pennsylvania with his family.
By 1930, he is a laborer in a boiler shop, living in North Braddock, Allegheny, Pennsylvania on Grandview Avenue (not Wolf Street like before), seemingly working at Westinghouse. He is living with his family.
From 1930 into the 1940s, is working at Westinghouse, with Ruth and Raymond also working there. In 1942 he is living in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, still working at Westinghouse as his WWII draft card notes.
In the mid-1930s, Ray, his son, works at the CCC, sending much of the money he earns back to his parents Michael and Marie.
In the 1950s, Michael moves to Arizona with his wife because of respiratory problems likely from working in the steel mill and at Westinghouse. He stays there until his death.
He dies on 20 Apr 1971 in Glendale, Maricopa, Arizona. His wife, Marie, will die 11 years later in the same area. As Ray puts it in his entry of his notebook on April 20, "Dad died in Glendale, Ariz."
Sadly, no pictures of him are currently in the possession of the one writing this bio.
