Milan’s teenage years in Nauvoo, Illinois, and Hazel Green, Wisconsin. He was twenty years of age when he came to Utah with his parents and settled in Springville, Utah, Utah. Converted to Mormonism while in Ohio. After his father’s death, he became a farmer, than a merchant for many years. He assisted in building the 1st Dam on Hobble Creek. In the early 1870’s he was the manager of Star Consolidated Mining Company. In 1876 he was the promoter of the Utah and {Pleasant Valley Railroad, then became it’s President and general manager. Eventually the railroad became the Rio Grande Western Railroad. The railroad was 50 miles long built to bring the coal to market. He paid $800.00 for the privilege of surveying the Township of Scofield for coal. Later he became the Director of the Springville Banking Company. Later he was involved in the freighting business. Milan was a Republican. He fought in three wars, Black Hawk War and the San Pete’s Wars.
