Mildred June Bainbridge

MILDRED J. BAINBRIDGE, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, August 16, 2016 in Cherokee Specialty Care (Cherokee Villa).

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Mildred was born on June 27, 1926 on a farm south of Cleghorn, Iowa to Robert & Ruth (Mitchell) Ferris. She graduated from Aurelia High school in 1944. She was married to Vernon Bainbridge on January 7, 1947 at Elk Point, South Dakota. She was a hard working farm wife, working alongside her husband for many years. Mildred loved to square dance and belonged to square dance clubs in Marcus and Alta. She enjoyed playing cards, taking trips everywhere, quilting, crocheting, feeding the gold finches, and was a very good cook. She was member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon on May 16, 2010, daughter Judy Law, great grandson Jerry Mote, brother John Ferris, sisters-in-law Dorothy Ferris and Jeannine Ferris, brothers-in-law William Downey, Dale Crane, Ray Wilberding, and Dale Grauer.

She is survived by her three children: Rodney (Priscilla) Bainbridge of Cherokee, Iowa; Roger “Scrapper” (Bonnie) Bainbridge of Cherokee, Iowa; Beth (Aaron) Mote of Rockwall, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; her siblings: Helen Downey of Marcus, Iowa; Leone Crane of Cherokee, Iowa; Eugene Ferris of Washta, Iowa; Margaret Wilberding of Montrose, Iowa; Wilma Grauer of Sanborn, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
