Mrs. Mildred Blalock Mangum, age 80, of 1325 Bahama Rd., died Thursday afternoon at her home. Mrs. Mangum was born in Durham, the daughter of the late Ulys H. and Sally Mangum Blalock. She lived in Bahama for over 60 years.

Mrs. Mangum was a homemaker and caregiver. She spent many hours taking care of others. Mrs. Mangum was registrar of Mangum Township for over 25 years. She received the Bahama Citizen Award given by the Bahama Ruritan Club in 2001. Mrs. Mangum was a member of the Bahama Women's Club. For several years, she had a ceramics shop at her home. Everyone enjoyed her ceramics classes. Mrs. Mangum was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lyon Mangum; a sister, Ethel Terrell; and a brother, Ralph Blalock.

Mrs. Mangum is survived by two sons, Melvin Thomas "Tommy" Mangum and wife, Bennie, and Julian Lyon Mangum and wife, Lula; grandchildren, Julian Dale Mangum and wife, Diane, Debra Michelle Mangum, David Todd Mangum and wife, Kathy, and Jamie Mangum Slaughter and husband, Calvin; great-grand-children, Kevin Dale Mangum, Hailee Luann Mangum, Julian Tanner Mangum and David Tyler Mangum; a sister, Gladys Casper, of Kinston; and three brothers, U.H. Blalock and wife, Louise of Sanford, William "Bill" Blalock of Durham, and Phillip Blalock and wife, Lorraine of Rougemont.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Snider and the Rev. Marilyn Shipman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Mangum.
