About Miles John Arnzen

Miles John Arnzen died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino of causes related to cancer.

Miles was born Dec. 7, 1956, at Cottonwood to Phillip and Clara Schaff Arnzen. He was christened at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Greencreek. He grew up in Greencreek on the family farm and attended school at Cottonwood. Miles graduated from Prairie High School in 1975.

After high school, Miles moved to Lewiston and went to work for Hilltop Texaco. He then moved to Grangeville and worked as a logger for Tovio Pottola where he gained experience as a heavy equipment operator. He later worked for Glen Owen Mobile and delivered fuel oil to Elk City and Dixie.

Miles was well known in Grangeville as a law enforcement officer for the city and the county. He was married briefly while living in Grangeville. The marriage was annulled in 1986 and Miles went to work as a correctional officer at the North Idaho Correctional Institution.

It was there he met Janie Collins Largent. They were married in Los Angeles Aug. 11, 1989. Miles moved to Peck that month and has lived there with his wife since. In 1992, Miles began working as a surveyor for Gary Stone and Associates in Lewiston. Miles was well known and respected in the surveying field. He designed and surveyed numerous projects in the valley such as the airport annex, Duthie Boulevard and North Lewiston sportsman access. In 2000 he worked on Hill Road in Boise as a grade surveyor for DeAtley Corp. and for Lawson Logging in Deary as a heavy equipment operator.

Miles enjoyed family gatherings, hunting and gun collecting.

He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Gary; and his father, Phillip Arnzen.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Arnzen at Peck; his mother, Clara Arnzen of Cottonwood; brothers, Mike, Guy, Ronald and wife Dorrine, and Joseph and wife Danel, all of Lewiston, Greg and wife Nancy of Greencreek, Charles and wife Linda of Grangeville and Roger and wife Barbara of Moscow; sisters, Linda Frei of Lewiston and Wilma Wassmuth and husband Ed of Greencreek; two daughters, Michelle and Kelly Arnzen, both of Grangeville; and five stepsons, Richard Largent, Clinton Largent and Adam Largent, all of Clarkston, Jason Largent of Moscow and Matthew Largent of Trenton, Ga.

The Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. today by the Rev. George King at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Browning officiating. Burial will follow at the Orofino Riverside Cemetery. A dinner will be provided at the Peck Community Club Center at 12:30 p.m. following the service.
