About Milton H. Fine
Milton was my cousin, one of the two sons born to Morris & Rose Fine. When Rose died suddenly at a young age, Morris, in time, returned to New York & married Yetta Cohen, my father's sister. (All 3 adults were Shifrins.) Aunt Yetta & Uncle Morris raised Milton & his brother, Leonard, (who at some point, mysteriously & forever, disappeared) and gave birth to their own son, Marvin, in 1945.
My mother, Florence (Schiff Cohen Troppe), would usually visit Aunt Yetta, or occasionally, Cousin Helen, with us two girls in tow, most Sundays. The two Fine families lived just a block apart in Akron. Helen was always kind to us children, with a kitchen closet where a huge net 'Christmas' stocking hung, filled with little toys. We were able to each choose one on visits!!
Back then, Milton worked at Uncle Morris's open air market in East Akron. Years later, Milton went out on his own in business of which I do not remember ever hearing. I do remember a split level, modern home in the suburbs, with a leased new car each year or so! Later in life, he too had a small market of his own near Portage Lake. He & Cousin Helen had two children, Rosalyn & Steve. (I don't know why Helen kept the names a secret on Geni!) Steve became a dentist, married & had children. Roz married Fred Sandal, who was my 'father stand-in' at my debutante ball. They had two children. Years later, the family settled in Florida, where Helen eventually moved.
He always looked like a gangster to me when I was a child! Suits, long sleeved shirts, ties, mustache, & hair slicked back! I was a bit frightened of him! I think I was in high school when Milton passed.
Both Helen & Milton are buried at the Workman Circle Cemetery, near Yetta & Morris's graves, and my mom & step-dad's.
