About Mina R. Sander

Funeral services for Mrs. Hildor Sander (nee Mina Melby) were held on Monday afternoon, January 12, with Rev. R. S. Aanestad officiating. Services were held at the home at 1 o'clock, Mr. Sander being unable to attend the church services. Rev. Aanestad spoke and the Ladies Chorus sang "The Lord is Our Shepherd." Church services were held at 2 o'clock. The Ladies Chorus sang and Mrs. M. S. Haakenson sang "Den Store Hvide Flink." Rev. Setness spoke briefly at these services. Active pallbearers were Garvin Melby, Carsten Brandon, Prentice Moen, Henning Brandon Arland Offerdahl and Robert Offerdahl. Honorary pallbearers were Sever Pladson, John Hanson, Gilbert Thompson, John Hogen, Ed Harmon and J. E. Johnson. Burial was made in the cemetery of Washington Prairie church of which Mrs. Sander was a charter member. Mrs. Sander was born Jan. 26, 1869 at Ridgeway, Iowa. Here she spent her childhood days. In 1880 with her parents, brothers and sisters, she came to North Dakota in a covered wagon. They settled on what is now the George Melby farm. On Jan. 18, 1899, just 49 years ago, she was united in marriage to Hildor E. Sander in St. John Lutheran church, by Rev. Marvick. Two children were born to this union, a son, Ernest, with whom Mr. and Mrs. Sander have made their home for many years and a daughter, Hazel, who died in infancy. The first years of their married life was spent on a farm east of Hatton In 1911 they moved to Hatton and have resided here since. She was a member of the St. John church and attended church faithfully until her health failed three years ago. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid for a number of years. Besides her husband and son Ernest she leaves two grand- children, Stewart and Steven, and one brother, George Melby . Her parents and three brothers preceded her in death. Among those attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Milton Johnston, and Mrs. E. Digness of Grafton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Soliah of Mayville, and Mr. Oscar Moen of Mayville.
