MRS. MINERVA KING PASSED SATURDAY

Pioneer Woman Had Lived in Southern Iowa For About 87 Years

Mrs. Minerva Jane King, who had lived in Warren and Madison counties since 1854, died here last Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. V. Powers. Had she lived one more day, she would have been 89 years of age.

Mrs. King was a native of West Virginia, where she was born in Barbor county on Feb. 2, 1852. She was the former Minerva Jane Sayre, and was the last of a pioneer family of nine children of Absolem and Rachel Sayre.

When she was 2 years old she came with her parents to Warren county in this state. Most of her life was spent in Warren and Madison counties.

In March 1872, she was married to Amberry R. King. They were the parents of 10 children, three of whom preceded their mother in death.

Mrs. King's father was a Methodist minister, and she was a life-long member of that church.

She is survived by seven children: Ivyl M. King of Englewood, Colo., Howard E. King of Chicago, Mrs. Bessie Corkill of Indianola, Walter W. King of Cimmaron, Kan., Perry S. King and Mrs. Nella Imes of St. Charles, and Mrs. Zella Powers of Winterset. She also leaves 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the St. Charles Methodist church Tuesday, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
