Obituary - Perth Courier - Jan.21,1971 - Mrs. Robert Kennedy - The death occurred at the Four Winds Hospital on Sunday, October 11, 1970, of Minnie Sergeant, wife of the late Robert Kennedy. She was in her 94th year. Mrs. Kennedy was born in South Sherbrooke Township on October 2, 1877, a daughter of the late John Sergeant and his wife Deborah Rutherford. She was the last surviving member of a family of nine and the second youngest, being predeceased by six brothers and two sisters. She was married to Robert Kennedy in Toronto November 22, 1926 who predeceased her September 1st, 1939. A number of nieces and nephews and a step-daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Leavoy of Windsor are left to mourn her loss. She kept store in Balderson for a number of years, returning to Elphin sis years ago. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of Elphin Presbyterian Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. She entered the GWM Hospital May 24, suffering from a slight stroke and was moved to the Four Winds June 11. Mrs. Kennedy celebrated her 93rd birthday on October 2 and suffered a coronary Oct. 8th from which she never recovered. Her body rested at the Jackson Funeral Home, McDonald's Corners until Wednesday, October 14 where the funeral service was conducted by Mr. Orville Forrester. Mrs. Forrester sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand" a request which Mrs. Kennedy had made four years ago. Interment was in Crawford's Cemetery. Pallbearers were five nephews and a member of session, Bill Sargeant, Gordon Sargeant, Harold Duncan, Wilbert Greer, Robert Sargeant, and John Rutherford. The many floral tributes and 'In Memorial" donation to charitable organizations such as Women's Missionary Society, Cancer Society, Heart Foundation and the Canadian Bible Society bore testimony to the high esteem in which Mrs. Kennedy was held. Friends and relatives attended the funeral from Windsor, St. Thomas, Ingersol, Trenton, Quebec, Pembroke and the surrounding areas.
