Eureka Woman Died After Brief Illness

Mrs. Minnie Joensuu, wife of John Joensuu of Eureka, and a resident of that city for 46 years, died in a Eureka hospital after a brief illness following a heart attack Friday. She was 66 years old, a native of Kortesjarvi, Finland. Mrs. Joensuu came to the United States 49 years ago. In 1900 she married Andrew Sarlund and nine children born of their union survive. Her marriage to John Joensuu took place in Eureka in 1923 and they cooperated in managing the Humboldt Steam Baths. She was a member of Eureka lodge, U. F. Keleva B. and S. Besides her husband, Mrs. Joensuu is survived by the following sons and daughters: Edward Sarlund, Mrs. Minnie Kane of West End, Mrs. Vera Ogilwy of Arcata, George, Ernest, John William and Oscar Sarlund of Eureka, Mrs. Ellen Groves of West End; 14 grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews in Michigan and Finland. Funeral rites were held Wednesday afternoon in the Pierce chapel with Rev. Paul Borup officiating. Interment was in Myrtle Grove cemetery under the auspices of U. F. K. B. and S. lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Pierce funeral parlors with Rev. Paul Borup officiating. Interment was in Ocean View cemetery. Beautiful graveside rites were conducted by the U. F. K. B. & S. lodge, who were assisted by the Finnish choir.
