About Minos Canon Rushing

Minos Canon Rushing was born October 23, 1834. He served in the military in Lebanon, La Clede County, Missouri. He served for a period of forty-one days, beginning October 10, 1864 and ending November 20, 1864. He was in Co. "C" 73rd Reg't., Missouri Militia in Captain Wood's Company. There is no confirmation that the company was ever activated by the Union Forces or saw any military action of consequence. Minos was a farmer, school teacher and Justice of the Peace. He married Josephine Ann Brasher on December 11, 1856. They were married in Josephine's parent's home. The minister was T.B. Rushing, thought to be Minos' brother, Thedorick.

About 1856, Minos and Josephine moved from Kentucky to Missouri with her father. It is thought that an epidemic of tuberculosis in Kentucky was the primary reason for the migration. Shortly after 1900, Minos and his family moved to Texas. They were living with their daughter, Sarah, in Bliss, Texas when Minos died on June 3, 1903. Josa lived part time with some of the other children after Minos' death. At the time of her death on January 19, 1856, Josa lived with her son, John. Minos and Josa are buried at Bethel Cemetery in Trenton, Texas.
