About Mitchell Henry

Mitchell Henry, former NFL tight end, died Friday, June 30, 2017, after a battle with leukemia, according to multiple news sources. He was 24.

He is the fifth great grandson of William Henry, Sr. who may be the brother or nephew of Patrick Henry (i.e. he is his seventh great nephew) so his seventh great uncle may be the man famous for saying "Give me liberty or give me death" meaning Mitchell Henry's last name and Patrick Henry's last name is no coincidence - they are paternal blood relatives. But some say that there is nothing to support hat William was the brother of Patrick Henry other than family tradition. The Patrick Henry "experts" say Patrick Henry did not have a brother even though on Geni he has well over a dozen. His sixth grandfather is Cpt Samuel Henry, I

After an impressive college football career at Western Kentucky, Henry signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2015. He played two games for the Denver Broncos that season before returning to the Packers’ practice squad. In 2016, just days after being released from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad, Henry was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He had been complaining of pain and doctors discovered a mass in his chest. Although he did not have much playing time in the NFL, teammates and coaches took to social media to share their condolences.

“During his time with the Packers, he quickly became a beloved member of our family and made a terrific impression on everyone in our organization. We were fortunate to have had him in our lives,” Packers general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement.

Henry was born Dec. 11, 1992 in Lexington, Ky. He attended Western Kentucky University where he played in 47 games, with 78 receptions totaling 1,094 yards and 12 touchdowns.

“Leukemia didn’t win, you won my dude. You have made me a better Christian, husband, and friend. My heart hurts, the tears cannot stop, but I know without a doubt, you are in Heaven celebrating with Our Lord and Savior,” former Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty posted on Twitter.

Henry is survived by his wife, Madison.
