Mitchell Dragutin Lulich, age 85, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
Beloved husband of Norma Morovich Lulich for 62 years; father of Michael Lulich (Peggy), Malayne DeMars (Robert) and Margo Whiteside (Bates); grandfather of Kelly Signorelli (Nick), Mitchell Lulich, Matthew Lulich, and Sadie Whiteside; great-grandfather of Salvadore Signorelli. Survived by five nieces, one nephew, and seven godchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ante Lulich and Mary Cvitanovich Lulich; his brother Anthony Lulich; and grandson Walter Whiteside.
After graduating valedictorian from Buras High School, Mitchell volunteered for the United States Navy and served until the end of World War II. He then attended Tulane and Loyola Universities. He managed and co-owned Lulich Brothers Orange Grove and Winery in Triumph, Louisiana, with his mother and brother. Mitchell was the owner of Lower Coast Lumber Company and Mitchell Lulich Construction Company in Plaquemines Parish. In 1960, he joined New York Life Insurance Company and was a successful agent until his retirement.
He was past commander of American Legion Post 193 in Buras; past member of Bacchus, Alla and Janus carnival organizations. He reigned as Maharajah of Alla in 1980. He was awarded The Order of St. Louis by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Mitchell was a member of the Croatian Benevolent Association, Croatian American Society, GNO Chamber of Commerce, St. Cletus Knights of Columbus (Council No. 8615), and the Christian Brothers Foundation.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 1 pm. Father Frank Carabella officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am.
