About Morris (Mor, Moritz) Edelman
- Born in Hrabkó/Harapkó/Hrapkó, Kisszebeni, Saros, Kingdom of Hungary (Hrabkov, Šariš, Prešov, Prešovský kraj, Slovakia.) 1920 U.S. Census: Hungary.
- Per records of the Hungarian Union Field Cemetery (now: Mount Carmel Cemetery), birth date is listed as May 1, 1885. US Census of 1/1/1920 says he was 35, however, thus birth in 1884?
- Left Bremen for New York on the S.S. Königin Luise on 2 September 1902 (some records say from "Hungary") at age 17
* Not verified: Four days after he arrived his possible grandmother Esther died in Colorado.
- First arrived in NYC, staying with his brother Max at his place at 191 East 100 Street, but immediately traveled to Montreal, only to return later to NYC to become a naturalized US citizen in 1910. Listed Max on his immigration paperwork from Canada; Max was then living on 90th street in NYC
- Married Anna (Helena) Kohn, also from Austria-Hungary, around 1909
- Went back to Czechoslovakia with mother and siblings in the early 1930's -- Magda Spira tells a story, related here by Morey Edelman, of how Morris gave a fountain pen as a gift to the Edelman's relatives there. The pen could never be used as it was "special."
- Had a successful career in the tobacco industry; often traveled to Cuba on business. Executive at Emil Klein & Co. and a vice president at Haddon Hall Cigars. Passport application from December 1917 has May 1, 1885 birth, occupation of cigar maker and intended destination: Havana, Cuba: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-39764-7186-38?cc=2185145
