About Moses Arledge

From the research files of Pam Wilson (

This Moses Arledge was probably the son of John Aldridge/Arledge (1704-1760, who migrated from Northumberland CO VA to Fairfield CO, SC]. Elizabeth was most likely his mother; she later remarried Matthias Fellows.

Moses was probably the brother of the Isaac Arledge (cousin of Amos) who settled in Polk County, NC, in 1804, married Sally McCormick and raised Harriett who in turn married Amos' son Jonathan Arledge. They are named, with a supposed sister Lydia Millar and/or her husband William Millar, in a number of documents together.

Moses listed as Head of Household in 1790 Fairfield County census, adjacent to the household of Matthias Fellows. Moses' household only had himself (one male over 16), while the Matthias Fellows household had one male over 16, one female over 16 and two slaves. I believe this was his mother and her second husband. Moses was obviously single in early 1790, then married Susannah and died within the same year. This may be a reason why Susannah contested for her share of the family inheritance.
