1930 Census: Jefferson Co, AL
Found Mose and Mallissie in the 1930 census, Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, District 119, Page 14. It lists his dad-NO NAME-as being from Germany, location unknown and his Mother as being from Scotland. Not much, but something.

I have some notes taken from an interview with Cora Allen Arledge in 1965. She had mentioned that Moses Arledge (she did not know the middle initial was "E." , and I don't know what is stands for), was an "Ore-Man". Several of the Arledges in the Hubert Lee Arledge line worked in ore mining in the north east Alabama area.
Though memories do get fuzzy, Moses and Molessa were her grandparents, and she would have known them.
She noted at the time of the interview that Moses Arledge died in about 1946 in Bessemer, AL (Jefferson
county). of a heart attack. This information seems to conflict with the dates shown on the Rootsweb for Moses.
She also noted that "Molessa" (or Malissa) had also died in the "1940's of old age" I did not see any death date for "Molessa" on the Rootsweb.
I suspect that both of them are buried in the Crudup (now Rainbow City) in Etowah county AL. Maybe you are able to better confirm the dates. Even better, Sandra Arledge Turner may very well know where their grave sites are and could read the dates off the tombstones.
My mom (Cora Allen Arledge) had also mentioned that Moses and Molessa had "lived in Tennessee,
Bessemer (AL), and Attalia (AL)".
Somewhat off the wall, on the 1965 notes there is also a side note next to Moses' name simply stating "had folks in Germany". This does not seem to fit with other information on the web. I wonder if this is possibly a reference to Moses' mother "Mary or Molly" or his grandmother "Huldah" (as noted on Rootsweb).
I am curious about some of the abbreviations I see in the Rootsweb listing below. Do you know what the
abbreviations "HOH" and "AFT" stand for?

You do not have to respond to this. I think part of our problem is
with the census takers.
1900 Mose Tenn, F/ Tenn. then it looks like he may have been corrected
and wrote South Carolina above it.
M/ South Carolina
1910 Mose B-Georgia F-Germany M-Scotland
1920 Mose B-Tenn F-Tenn M-Tenn
My Mom said many times over the years that granpa Mose was part German. I am thinking we will have to make good guesses-because the census takers just made mistakes.

More from Sandra:
Received this bit of information: Marion County, Tennessee, census records listed Moses E. born October 1854, married two years. He was born in TN, his father in South Carolina mother in South Carolina, wife, Mallissie born Jan 1863, age 27, born TN, father and mother TN. They are listed in the 15th. district which borders Franklin County, Tenn. and Jackson County, Alabama. The Arledge name is also listed as Ollage in 1870 and 1880.
Their marriage is not listed or the gentlemen could not find it, but there is a mention of their marriage in the Sequatchie Valley News, June 6, 1898. Mose Arledge married Miss Lizzie Aikin on May 30, 1898. This must be where Mallissie, also could be an
Elizabeth as well as Mallissie came in.
Chattanooga Times, 2-25-1924, B. L. listed as Mose as his brother from Gadsden, Alabama
M. E. Arledge, listed on 1891 - Tennessee Voters List.
