About Moses Floyd
Moses Floyd is one of several brothers (and possible sisters) who moved from North Carolina before the American Revolution to the Horry County, South Carolina area (then part of Georgetown District). After substantive research in census data, court and legislative archives, it appears clear that the parents of the brothers are Samuel Floyd and Ann Rowland Floyd. Rowland/Roland are family names in various lines and each line has a Samuel, often more than once in a generation, which can lead to confusion. Ann or Anna are common names in the Floyd family for women. In addition, DNA matches are confirming relationships among members. Please contribute DNA to Family Tree DNA studies if possible or other testing services where tree matches can be confirmed.
Moses married Mary Lewis. Evidence of her first name is noted in some of his land transactions. Sources for her last name are noted on her profile. As evidenced that Moses named his beloved son-in-law John Sarvis in his will along with the time of the making of the will, it can be concluded that his daughter is the 2nd wife of John Sarvis, Laura or Lora Hannah Floyd. It is believed he had at least two more children based on census data including sons named of Moses and Samuel as indicated in will and land transactions. The 1790 census indicates he and Mary had a daughter that married John Sarvis, two more daughters, and three sons.
