About Mr Betz
Mr Betz was a Dutch National and was the accountant for Coombe Abbey in England. He went to Sumatra as a bookkeeper for the mission Service. On his way back he stopped in Cape Town and stayed on. In South Africa he worked as an accountant for Lord Craven who had interests in South Africa, including fruit farms around Paarl. He married a Miss Tyler from Cape Town. His wife died when the their two girls were very young. He later remarried a woman known only as Matey. He owned a house in Worcester and also later bought property in Hermanus.
