Note ===: Note: Murdo MacRae (b. 1855) came from 33 Back. He was the third of eight children ofDonald MacRae (b. November 28, 1825) and Kirsty MacIver (b. 1829). After marrying Mary Beaton (b. 1856) of 40 Vatisker, they moved there. The couple had one child. Mary Beaton was the sister of Norman Beaton who married Murdos sister, Ann MacRae. Interestingly, this kind of
double marriage occurred again with another two of Ann
s siblings, when Mary and Donald MacRae married Murdo and Isabella MacLeod. Along with five other men, Murdo MacRae drowned returningfrom long-line fishing off the coast of Ness in March, 1885. The newboat in which he was a crew member was swept under by heavy swell opposite Garry Point.
