About Myrtle Lillian Anderson
My grandmother wasn't a typical grandmother, I never saw her in a dress. She would wear shorts and sandals most of the time, as she lived in Miami, Florida her adult life. She had red hair and freckles ( I always thought I looked like her, as I too had strawberry blonde hair and freckles. When we went to visit, she liked to take us to flea markets and they went on for what seemed like miles. We would also go to Marco Island and play in the ocean and collect seashells. One summer when we lived in North Carolina, Robin and I went to stay with her for a few weeks. We took a Greyhound bus to Miami, just the two of us. She worked full time, so she was gone most of the day. We found things to do, but going outside you were at the mercy of snakes or red ants. Sometimes she would take us to a local pool for the day. She had a Siamese cat that I was really afraid of...it scratched me a few times. I remember my Grandpa (Richard) being very tall, and always smoking a Cuban cigar (or at least that's what I thought it was).
