!During the Civil War in which all of her brothers fought, she was left to do all of the chores at home with the help of her younger sisters. This included timbering, hauling wood, ploughing, as well as most of the housework due to her mother's invalid status.
!Given a cow and calf, a hog and some sheep upon her marriage which helped to start a business for the young couple. They made a great deal of money selling stock and eventually owned 300 acres of the best land six miles north of Unionville, MO
