After Charley Freeman died , Nancy Bailey Freeman Left the children and went to GA or SC . It is believed she worked as a cook for a mining camp. She met John Kirkland. Not sure if they married. . There was talk that the remaining children at home should be put in a Foster Home, James Oscar went into Bryson City and got papers to become the children's guardian.
