About Nancy Gable

Obituary by W. A. Tigner, Pastor:

Sister Nancy Gable, wife of David Gable of Coweta County, Georgia, departed this life Jan. 22, 1884, and was buried at the cemetery of Pilgrim Church on Jan. 25, 1884. Funeral services by the pastor.

Her maiden name was Nancy Leitner. She was born in Lexington County, South Carolina, Dec. 15, in the year of Grace 1807, was reared by pious parents and was married to David Gable, Feb. 4, 1830. The first Lutheran congregation of which she was a member worshiped at a church known as Old Peter's Church in Lexington County, South Carolina, on Little Hollow. Rev. Godfrey Droher was pastor at the time of her confirmation. Afterwards, she with her husband moved their membership to Salem Church under the pastoral care of Rev. George Haltiwanger. Remaining here a few years during which time Rev. Stanmore Sheppard became pastor of the church, she moved to Georgia, and was received into Pilgrim Church in the year 1847, of which she remained communicant up to the time of her death.

She was the mother of ten children. Three of these have gone before her and seven still live to battle in the warfare of life.

Of her, it may be said that she conscientiously discharged the duties devolving upon her in the various relations of life, and has gone to reap the reward of the good and true. Few live to her age, and nearly all of her companions of early days have departed. We are all passing away, but we shall be gathered together again.

May her family unbroken meet her in Peace, having triumphed over the trials and contests of life in the vale of sorrow. - W.A. Tigner, Pastor.
