About Nancy Jane Hays
In 1838 Nancy Jane Mallory inherited property from her grandfather James Brownfield. On 5 March of that year her father petitioned to have James Clements appointed guardian of the property. He was the father-in-law of Nancy's uncle Robert Brownfield. Nancy appears on the 1850 census with her husband, but no children. They do not appear on the 1856 census of Dallas County, Iowa with her other relatives. They moved to Washington before 1854, when their daughter Mary Adeline was born there.
