She was born near the town of Zanesville, Noble County, Ohio and spent her childhood days in that state. At the age of 12 years she came with her parents to Iowa, Van Buren Co. where she spent her life with the exception of some Academy and school work and three years in Sumner Co., Kansas.

In the autumn of 1878, Nov. 11, she was united in marriage to Lewis Mize of Canton, Mo. Four children blessed this union, all of whom are living: - Mrs. Jessie L. She was a woman of refined character and an unselfish, loving disposiiton, always striving for that which would improve and enrich life, a true helpmate and a lover of her threshold and household tasks.

An ardent admirer of the great beauties of Nature and a devotee of literature especially poetry with which she passed many rich moments.

During the last few years of her life, invalidism overcame her but bearing with patience and ever hoping for a ray of improvement.

Dear Mother your going is as the passing of a beautiful flower or an exquisite melody but the sweetness and echo remain and the goodness and tenderness radiated by your life will linger as a vibrant forse in the lives of those you loved best and by whom you were so deeply loved.
