Nancy Saunders Alexander

"Behind the garden and across "Dry Creek" is the graveyard where lie Major William Cunningham (Revolutionary Aide-de-camp to General Washington) and his daughter Nancy. Nearby are the graves of Colonel William Saunders, an officer in the Revolution and a member from North Carolina of the Society of the Cincinnati, and Major Richard Alexander, an officer under Jackson in the war of 1812."

Biography

Nancy Saunders Alexander (Cunningham) was born on December 27, 1777, in Sumner Co., TN. Her parents were William Cunningham and Elizabeth Watkins.

Nancy married husband 1) Capt William Saunders on January 13, 1795, in Caswell, North Carolina. Together they had the following children:

• Ethelbert Watkins Saunders;
• Lafayette Saunders Judge.

Nancy married husband 2) Maj. Richard Brandon Alexander on February 28, 1808, in Smith, Tennessee, USA. Together they had the following children:

• Elizabeth W Alexander;
• Richard Cunningham Alexander.
