SMITH, NANCY JANE – 83, Pine Knot, Ky., died March 4, 1975, in Somerset City Hospital after a lingering illness. Her husband GEORGE SMITH, preceded her in death. The daughter of the late B. R. KING and LOTTIE COX KING, she was born in Whitley County, Nov. 14, 1891. She was a lifelong resident of the community. She was a housewife and a member of Lower Hickory Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters , BERTHA MAYS, Stearns, HAZEL STEPHENS, Underwood, Ind., OPAL BENNET, Indianapolis, Ind., EDITH BURTON, Lancaster, and AUDRA EVANS, Layton, Utah; five sons, HAROLD SMITH, Stearns, DESTER SMITH, Indianapolis, Ind., LEWIS SMITH CONROE, Texas, MERRIL SMITH, Scottsburg, Ind., and ARNOLD SMITH, Houston, Texas; two brothers, NEWT KING, Strunk, and WEBSTER KING, Eugene, Oregon; 46 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in Lower Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. LLOYD KING and Rev. CHARLIE TAYLOR officiating. Burial was in Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were ALLEN, CRAIG, LANNY DALE, JOE and DAVID SMITH and ROSS BURTON. McCreary County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
