  • Nancy Dorcas York is the third child of ten children born to Semore York and his wife Sylvania Aldridge.
  • Nancy was born in colonial Orange (now Randolph) County, North Carolina on her father’s farm in the Sandy Creek Community.
  • Her father donated the land for the Sandy Creek Baptist Church in the year she was born, 1756 shortly after they had migrated from Terrapin Neck, in colonial Fredrick County, Virginia.
  • Her uncle Thomas York and her first cousins attended the Sandy Creek Baptist Church with members of her own family.
  • Her father and uncle are buried in the Sandy Creek Baptist church on either side of their pastor Rev Shubel Stearns.
  • She is buried in the McMasters Cemetery beside her husband.
  • In October 2012 the G M York Family Association installed a new readable memorial marker (photo attached) because her soap stone marker had started to fade but still readable (photo attached).
  • Both of their original tombstone markers were created from the nearby Soapstone Mountain mine.
  • Nancy Dorcas York daughter of Semore York married her first cousin John York, Sr. son of Thomas York.
  • They had six children, two sons and four daughters.
