On 10-20-1888 Nathan Overman and wife out of unity with the New Garden MM. Nathan S. Overman, farmer and stock-raiser, was born in Preble County, Ohio, July 14, 1822, eighth child of Jesse and Keziah (Stubbs) Overman. He received his education in the subscription schools, and lived with his father till he grew to manhood. He was married Nov. 20, 1844, to Anna P., daughter of Frederick and Piety (Parker) Fulgham, who were of French and English descent, and came from North Carolina to Randolph County, Indiana, about 1821.

Of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Overman, four are living--Lindly F., Jonathan J., William A. and Rallie L. Those deceased are--Ruth, Anna J., Oliver M. and Nathan Albert. After his marriage Mr. Overman lived three years on his father's land, after which he entered 160 acres of land in Miami County. At the end of a year he returned to Wayne County, having traded eighty acres of unimproved land in Miami County for forty acres in Wayne County, where he resided until 1856. He then sold out and purchased a farm of 110 acres of well-cultivated land, where he has since followed agricultural pursuits. He and wife and children were members of the Society of Friends. Our subject's father was the son of Ephraim and Rachel (Small) Overman, who were natives of Virginia, and of German descent.

He was born in Virginia, and when a child moved with his parents to Indiana, where he was married to Keziah Stubbs, who died in 1835. They had a family of fourteen children, of whom eight sons and two daughters still survive. He began life in limited circumstances but by hard work and good management he accumulated a large property and was enabled to give his children a start in life. He died in 1869, aged eighty-eight years. He and his family were active members of the Society of Friends.

Our subject's grandfather, Ephraim Overman, was millwright by trade. He came to Indiana in a very early day and entered land a part of Richmond now stands. He was elected by the people to represent the county in the Legislature for several terms. He died at the age of seventy-five years. His wife survived him many years, and died at the advanced age of over ninety-nine years. They were members of the Friends' society.--History of Wayne County, Indiana; Volume II, (1884) Franklin Township. pp. 416-417.

Nathan S. Overman was located in Franklin Township, Wayne County in 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1900. He died 29 August 1906 Franklin Township, a death record in the New Garden MM.

William Overman and wife Nancy and child Martha Ann get a certificate to Mississinewa on 2-21-1846; they moved to Miami county into what once was the Miami Indian big Reserve near the border with Grant County (History of Miami county, 129). Just before the great land sale in 1847 a few Quaker families settled in the southeastern part of the county and not long after their coming they organized what is now the Amboy Friends church. Among the original members were William and Eli Overman and their families and Calvin Edgerton. The first house of worship was a deserted dwelling, but in a short time a log church was erected just north of the present town of Amboy. Meetings were held in it until 1865, when a large frame house was built in its place. Rev. Zimri Hockett was one of the first preachers. They had two more children Nathan E. born 1861 and Irena born 1867. William remarried to Mary Annis Outland; she died before 1900.
