About Nathan S. White

Nathan enlisted in the Union cause 7 Oct 1861, with his cousin Andrew, who lied about his age in order to join up. He was a private in Co G of the 2nd Maine Infantry. Andrew was in Co H. Nathan died of one of the many "fevers" that were as great an enemy of both sides as each other. He was 23 years old, ten months, and 20 days old. Subsequently, Andrew re-enlisted, perhaps to continue the fight for Nathan. Nathan's brothers Bartlett and Matthew also served, but survived.
