About Nathaniel Baldwin
Nathaniel Baldwin
NATHANIEL 5, Hezekiah 4, Sylvanus 3, Barnabas 2, Richard 1 of Milford
Baldwin was the son of Hezekiah and Elizabeth Baldwin (Hine), was born in Woodbridge, Connecticut on February 13, 1783, where he lived and died as a farmer, upon the old ancestral land given to his family by 'Toutonimo.' He married 1802, SUSAN YORK (Susannah, per headstone), who died on May 8, 1837, aged 58. He died on August 1, 1828, says the tombstone and Ch. Rec., which are wrong, however, in saying that he was 46; while differing as usual in Woodbridge, the Fam. Rec., in this instance wrong, make his death in 1826, aged 45.
Children were: Stiles (bpt 10/1803), Eliza Ann (5/3/1805; m. 8/2/1824, Captain James J. Baldwin 5, s. of Thomas 4, Barnabas 3, Barnabas 1, Richard 1), Cornelia Ann (bpt. 10/2/1807; m. Ezra Thompson), Starr (Nathaniel Starr), Garwood Mills (bpt. 10/15/1805...change to 1815 per pg 203), Charles L. (8/1822), Susan Emeline (entered in Ch, Rec, as Susan Caroline, bpt. 10/20/1818; d. 9/11/1824, aged 6y,9m,9d), and Charity Jane (bpt. 10/22/1820; d. 9/6/1824; aged 4y, 28d).

Inscription: Aged 46 years
Note that Woodbridge dated people 1 yr older than they were by our normal count. They considered the first 12 months as year 1, and at the anniversary of the birth, would say that people were 'in their 2nd year'....a matter of years completed vs. years started...this did not catch on as people disliked being made a year older.
Burial: Milford Side Cemetery Woodbridge New Haven County Connecticut, USA
