About Nathaniel J Judd, Sr.

Nathaniel was either born in England and traveled to America in the year of his birth, or more likely was born in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania in 1746, a year or so after his father made the trip from England. He appears to have remained in Virginia a few years after his father moved to Surry County, North Carolina. Nathaniel was a family man, a farmer with several hundred acres of land, and he was active in the local affairs of the community. A founding member of the Reddies River Church, established in 1798, he often served as a juror and in the development of local roads. Like his father, he was a Revolutionary War patriot. Judd descendants of Rowland Sr. and/or Nathaniel Sr. are entitled to membership in the CAR (Children of the American Revolution), SAR (Sons of the American Revolution), or the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). Nathaniel died in Reddies River in 1825, leaving behind 10 children: John Judd; Nathaniel J. Judd; Mary Judd; William M. Judd; Nancy Judd; Susannah Judd; Elizabeth Judd; Rowland Judd; Thomas B. Judd; and Hannah Judd. He may have had two more daughters who died young.
