Nathaniel was the son of Thomas Stanley & Bennet Tritton. On June 2, 1659 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, he married Sarah Bossey. To this union, 6 children were born:

Nathaniel was a man of much wealth and influence. He removed to Hadley in 1659 with his parents; was townman there in 1665; returned to Harford in 1669; chosen townsman there on 16 February 1665-6; again in Dec, 1676, 1680, 1685 and 21 May 1688; constable Feb 1672-3; ensign of the trainband; deputy, 1678-9; Assistant, 1690-1712; judge of County Court; and Court of Probate, 1698-1702. On the Council of Safety, 1689, 1707, 1708; on Committee of War for Hartford.
