Needham B. Koonce

Obituary of Needham B. Koonce from Fayetteville Observer, February 16, 1874:

Died of great peace, of consumption, February 6, 1874 at his residence on Stewart Creek, Mr. Needham B. Koonce, age 68 years, 6 months, 26 days. Born in Wilson County, July 11, 1806 and joined the M.E. Church in Nashville under the ministry of Rev. A.L.P. Green, who has ever been a favorite with him. Moved soon afterwards to Lincoln County and married Burdotta Koonce, January 1, 1832. Becoming somewhat divided in his religious sentiments, producing in his mind some conflicting opinions, he never afterwards connected himself with any branch of the Church, but always maintained the character of an honest, industrious man and citizen, consistent christian, and died as such lamented by all that knew him. The deceased was a good citizen, kind neighbor, loving husband, affectionate father and devoted Christian. (This was followed by a long poem by a friend).
