About Nehemiah Dye
Nehemiah Dye was born February 29, 1816 in Mason Co., KY. He is living with his parents on the 1820 census of Fleming Co,. KY. His father died in 1822 when he was about age 6, and his mother died in 1825 when he was about age 9. I'm not sure where he lived after his mother's death as his grandparents were also all deceased; probably with one of his uncles & aunts in Mason Co., KY. I have not found him the 1830 or 1840 census at this time. Nehemiah married Rebecca Ellen Chandler on November 04, 1848 in Mason Co., KY and they had 10 children. They moved from Kentucky to Illinois sometime between 1840 to 1850, possibly in 1841 when Nehemiah's brother Lawrence moved with his family. Nehemiah & Rebecca are listed with their children on the 1850 & 1855 censuses of District 21, Vermilion Co., IL and on the 1860 census of Georgetown, Vermilion Co, IL. They are listed on the 1865 state census of Carroll, Vermilion, Illinois. The family moved from Illinois to Kansas about 1869 based on birth places of children. The family is listed on the 1870, 1875, 1880, 1885 & 1895 censuses of Centerville, Neosho Co., KS. Rebecca died on Septembere 15, 1896 in Centerville, Neosho Co., KS. Nehemiah is age 84, listed as "father-in-law" in the household of John B. & Julia (Dye) Bennett on the 1900 census of Centerville, Neosho Co., KS. Nehemiah died on July 19, 1903 in Centerville, Neosho Co., Kansas. Nehemiah & Rebecca are both buried in the Dunkard Cemetery, Galesburg, Neosho, Kansas.
