Nelson Marvin Beckwith was a New York wholesale grocery businessman. He was appointed United States Consul General and United States Commissioner-General to the Paris Exposition of 1867. N.M. Beckwith was the father of American artist James Carroll Beckwith and Frances Hélène Forbes (Beckwith) Leigh, known as Baroness of Stoneleigh after her marriage to Francis Dudley Leigh, 3rd Baron Leigh of Stoneleigh in the County of Warwick, in the UK.
